The Treekeeper’s Daughter

A Novel

I love Fairytales! And I love writing new versions of the old and beloved stories. This is a peek into the Beauty and The Beast fairytale novel that I wrote. It’s filled with enchanted roses, talking forest animals, adventurous sisters, and a mysterious sealed castle. Come with Bella the Torch Bearer, and share in her heartwarming discovery of loyalty, redemption, and romance.

The Treekeeper’s Daughter

“If you hadn’t frightened me, I wouldn’t have fallen.” Bella tried to catch her breath.

Chapter 24

Pewter Castle had been closed tight for time beyond memory.

Chapter 66

The torch light became smaller. The colour changed from diamond white to zircon yellow, then from zircon yellow to citrine orange to ruby red. Then emerald green to amethyst purple. Until it finally turned to sapphire blue, the colour that meant all was peaceful and well in the village.

Then the light disappeared.

Chapter 3

Margo gave Bella a reassuring smile and said, “So bring a torch, Jeannette Isabella.”

Chapter 1

“Thank you for the dance, Snow Queen.”

Chapter 72

“Bella, you have an extraordinary gift with roses.”

Chapter 5

“The older sister, Margo, has hair the colour of soft caramel. And the younger sister, Bella, has hair the colour of dark chocolate,” Leo declared.

“Leo Polo De La Croix, I do believe your head has finally been turned by a pretty girl.”

Chapter 3

“What are you doing in here all alone?” Guy demanded of Bella, setting down his lantern and standing directly in front of her.

Chapter 50

There were also Prophets in the land, who taught the people about the Coming Day of the Saviour.

Chapter 27

“Bella, you cannot stay on this mountain amongst these trees and hide from your future forever.”

Chapter 5

“Were you here in the days of the castle?” Bella asked. “Before the castle was blackened with age? In the days when the gardens were cared for, and the roses bloomed?”

Chapter 26

A loud growl sounded from within Shadow Forest. It was followed by another growl, closer by. Then another. Then came a growl that sounded even louder. And another growl came from somewhere above them.

“What is that?” Guy froze in his tracks.

“The torch has more than one way of protecting me, Guy.” Bella pulled her arm from his grasp.

Chapter 50

“Bella has experience with goodness,” Leo stated. “She will know how to let the torch guide her.”

Chapter 3

“Is it true that the roses are enchanted?”

Chapter 14

“Here comes Terese-Marie.” Bella had been watching through the trees. “And I haven’t hidden the money yet.”

Chapter 43

“Is anyone up there?” Bella called up to the trees.

Chapter 48

The roses gave life to the garden. Luscious, large, creamy roses. Pearly white roses with shimmering depths. Delicate, small, ivory roses. Pure white velvety roses.

Chapter 55

They inserted the key into the garden door and succeeded in opening it.

Chapter 11

Chapter 66

“Leo, you must go,” Bella pleaded, hand on the key. “Look at the torch. It has not changed colour. I am safe.”

“Mayhap the torch hasn’t changed colour because I haven’t left you,” Leo stated.

Bella could not disagree with that. So, with one final pleading look, Bella turned the key and swung the door wide.

Chapter 49

“Are you the reason the castle is sealed?” asked Bella.

Chapter 32

“You are more like a wild rose.”

Chapter 28

Where was her sash? Ah, there it was, over by the barn. How did it get there? And was it moving?

Chapter 74

Over the mountain came the harvest moon, its silvery beams lighting the Autumn sky. The girls, Bella, Margo, Cicilia, and Terese-Marie, wore brightly coloured dresses, with fragrant flowers in their hair and satin slippers on their feet.
