ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS & BRIDAL PHOTOS
Did you just get engaged, and is everything happening all at once?! Engagement photos are one of the first things that need to be done. Especially if you are having a short engagement. There are wedding preparations that you can space out, and even things that can be done last minute. But, getting announcements into the mail isn’t one of them. Especially if people are overseas or are traveling to your wedding.
Some photographers will help you with poses, but it’s a good idea to think this through, and know what you want. That way, you will get the announcement photos and bridal pictures and wedding album that you will cherish forever. And not just a bunch of pictures of you and your fiancé staring straight at the camera.
Start creating a list of places that are memorable to you and your fiancé. Places where it would be meaningful to go back and take engagement photos. Then, have a fun time going back there and working out the details and taking your own trial photos. This will help you to use your time effectively and efficiently when you get with a photographer.
Photo Places to Consider:
- Where you met.
- Where you had your first date.
- Where you had your first kiss.
- Campus building where you both studied together.
- Restaurant where you both took your work break.
- Where he proposed.
And think about what you want to wear, for each of you. A small amount of planning will make a big difference here, so he doesn’t come in a suit and tie, while you’re in jeans, boots, and a cowboy hat. Do you want to be formal? Casual? A bit of both? Use your time effectively. Make sure you map out where you are going and places to change clothing and touch-up hair and makeup. And schedule enough time for everything you want to do, so you are not rushed.
Gather anything you want to use in the photos. Real flowers will always be lovely. Order ahead of time and schedule time to pick them up. Artificial flowers are easier to deal with, and they photograph well. Are you runners, and do you want a fun picture with your running shoes? Or basketball? Or tap-dancing?

Also, factor in the timing of The Golden Hour. If you want sunset photos, you are going to need to be organized and ready to go. The sun is going to set, whether you have finished your photos or not! You may have to schedule two days/sessions for sunset photos.

Choose the pictures that you love, and start experimenting and coming up with your own pose ideas. Take your own pictures, and have friends and family members take some for you, as well. Get a feel for what you like, what you don’t like, what to do with your hands, how much to smile. Work out all these details before you meet with a photographer. Then, let your photographer know before your photo shoot, what you have in mind and the places you want to go.
Then you will be confident and ready for your photo shoots, your pictures will turn out great, and you will love them forever!
